ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Thomas E. Smith, Jr., AICP, FSMPS, CPSM
President, BonTerra Consulting
Thomas E. Smith, Jr., AICP, FSMPS, CPSM is a founding principal and President of BonTerra Consulting, a 50 person consulting firm established in 1996 to provide environmental planning, natural resources management, air quality/climate change and noise analyses, habitat restoration, regulatory permitting and cultural resources management services to public- and private-sector clients throughout Southern and Central California from offices in Costa Mesa and Pasadena. Since the early 1980s, Tom has served as an owner and Principal in Charge of Marketing for two firms and has been actively involved in strategic planning for these successful businesses. He has 34 years of experience in preparing and processing environmental impact assessments, managing multidisciplinary project teams, and assisting public and private sector clients meet their environmental and regulatory compliance requirements.
Tom is the SMPS National President for 2009-2010. An SMPS member since 1984, and an SMPS Fellow since 2002, his previous SMPS involvement has included Los Angeles SMPS Chapter Board of Directors, SMPS National Publications Committee Chair, Regional Director SMPS National Board of Directors, National Certification Commission Member, 2003 MCA Awards juror, 2005 New Orleans Conference Committee, Fellows Delegate on the SMPS National Board of Directors, 2006-2008, and President-Elect, SMPS National Board of Directors, 2009.
His personal interests include baby-sitting his 26 month old grand daughter Lianna, flying single engine airplanes, restoring a 1965 Mustang Convertible and a 1956 Ford Thunderbird, and travelling.
